The Ruling on Swearing by One’s Honor or by a State of Distress

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Your Eminence! May Allah preserve you! What is your Eminence’s opinion regarding some of the common people when an oath comes from them, such that it is in their honor,As if he says: in my honor, or it is in a state of distress,As if he says: you are in a state of distress with me, does this fall under the categories of shirk (associating partners with Allah)?

If a person says: in my honor,or he said: you are in a state of distress with me, this does not fall under shirk; because shirk is swearing by other than Allah, whereas this is in the ruling of an oath or in the ruling of a vow; however, it is not the type of oath that causes its speaker to fall into shirk,Except that we say: the fact that he swears by Allah is what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded, where he said: (Whoever swears, let him swear by Allah or let him remain silent) .

And Allah said to His Prophet:
(1) O Prophet, why do you prohibit [yourself from] what Allah has made lawful for you, seeking the approval of your wives? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. (2) Allah has already ordained for you [Muslims] the dissolution of your oathsيَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ لِمَ تُحَرِّمُ مَا أَحَلَّ اللَّهُ لَكَ تَبْتَغِي مَرْضَاتَ أَزْوَاجِكَ وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ * قَدْ فَرَضَ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ تَحِلَّةَ أَيْمَانِكُمْ
[al-Tahrim:1-2] .
So it is better for one who wants to swear to swear by Allah.

As for his statement: (in my honor) or (you are in a state of distress with me) or something similar to that, this has the ruling of an oath,But it is not an oath for which its speaker is said: that he is a mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah),So the oath for which its owner is said: that he is a mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah) to say: (by the sovereignty of so-and-so) or (by the president so-and-so) or (by the Prophet) or (by the Ka'bah) this is what falls under his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): (Whoever swears by other than Allah has committed kufr (disbelief) or shirk) .
