The Ruling on Swearing by One's Honor and Youth

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
We return at the beginning of this episode to the message from listener Dawud Sarhan. We presented part of his questions in previous episodes, and in this episode he asks and says: We have a new custom, which is swearing by one's honor, or by one's youth, instead of swearing by Allah. Is this permissible?

Answer:
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance. As for what follows:
Swearing by other than Allah is not permissible; because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever has to take an oath should swear by Allah or remain silent.من كان حالفًا فليحلف بالله أو ليصمت
Sahih al-Bukhari 2679
He also said, may Allah's prayers and blessings be upon him:
He who must take an oath, may do so by swearing in the Name of Allah or he should remain silent.من كان حالفًا فلا يحلف إلا بالله أو ليصمت
Riyad as-Salihin 1707
, and he also said, may Allah's prayers and blessings be upon him:
whoever swears by anything other than Allah has committed an act of shirk.من حلف بشيء دون الله فقد أشرك
Musnad Ahmad 329Sahih (Darussalam)
, which Imam Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded in al-Musnad with a sound chain from 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).
Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi (may Allah have mercy on them) also recorded with a sound chain from Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who swears by anyone or anything other than Allah, has indeed committed an act of Kufr or Shirkمن حلف بغير الله فقد كفر أو أشرك
Riyad as-Salihin 1711
This may be interpreted as uncertainty from the narrator as to whether the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said "disbelief" or said "associating partners with Allah," or the meaning is that both occurred for him, and the "or" means "and," meaning: disbelief and associating partners with Allah.
By this, it is known that swearing by other than Allah is absolutely not permissible, not by the prophets, not by the angels, not by the Ka'bah, not by trustworthiness, not by so-and-so's honor, not by so-and-so's head, not by so-and-so's nobility, not by so-and-so's life, or anything else. If he says: by my honor, or by my head, or by my nobility, or by my life, or so-and-so's life, or the like, all of this is not permissible. Or if he says: by trustworthiness, or by the Prophet, or by the Ka'bah, all of that is not permissible. In the authentic hadith, he (peace and blessings be upon him) says:
He who swears by Amanah (faithfulness) is not one of us.من حلف بالأمانة فليس منا
Sunan Abi Dawud 3253Sahih (Al-Albani)
.
By this, it is known that it is obligatory for Muslims to be cautious of these false oaths, and to accustom themselves to swearing by Allah alone, and to be cautious of swearing by other than Him, whoever it may be. Likewise, one should not say: "What Allah willed and so-and-so willed," nor say: "If it were not for Allah and so-and-so," nor say: "This is from Allah and from so-and-so." Rather, one should use "then" and say: "What Allah willed, then so-and-so willed." If the person's involvement was that he repelled evil from you and protected you from harm, you say: "What Allah willed, then so-and-so willed, and such and such happened." "If it were not for Allah, then so-and-so," because he did you a favor. "This is from Allah, then from so-and-so," there is no harm in that. But to say: "If it were not for Allah and so-and-so," or "This is from Allah and so-and-so," or "What Allah willed and so-and-so willed," this is not permissible. Rather, it is among the forbidden matters of associating partners with Allah.
Therefore, it is obligatory to be cautious of these words and of swearing by other than Allah; out of reverence for Allah, obedience to His command and the command of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), and standing by the limits of Allah. Yes.
