The Ruling on Giving a Sermon Between the Rak'ahs of Tarawih

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
What is the ruling on giving a sermon between the prayers of Tarawih, or in the middle of them, and doing this regularly? The Shaykh: There is no objection. If he stands up for the second taslim and sees that the rows are crooked, or that the worshippers have become scattered and separated, leaving gaps among them,Let him say: he should say, "Straighten your rows or stand close together," and there is no blame on him.
As for the sermon, no, because this is not the way of the Salaf. However, he may admonish them if the need arises, or after Tarawih if he wishes. If he intends this as an act of worship, it is a religious innovation (bid'ah). The sign of intending it as worship is that he persists in doing it every night. Then we say: Why, my brother, do you admonish the people? Some people may have business and wish to finish Tarawih and leave so that they can catch up with the saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him): "Whoever stands in prayer with the imam until he finishes is recorded as having stood the night in prayer." And if you love the sermon, and half the people love it too, or even three-quarters of the people love it, do not imprison the last quarter for the sake of the three-quarters' love.Did not the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When one of you leads the people in prayer, he should shorten it, for among them are the weak, the sick, and those in need," or as the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said.Meaning: Do not measure people by yourself or by the others who love talk and sermons. Measure people by what makes them comfortable. Pray Tarawih with them, and when you have finished and left your prayer and the people have left, say whatever you wish.
We ask Allah to grant us and you beneficial knowledge and righteous deeds. And be glad of the good in attending this place, for: "Whoever travels a path in search of knowledge, Allah makes easy for him a path to Paradise."
And all praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family and all his Companions.
