Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (And in the sky is your provision and what you are promised)
Allah the Exalted said: [Surat al-Dhariyat: 22] The sky contains provision, so what is this provision of ours? Many scholars held that the provision referred to here is rain; For Allah the Exalted said: [Surat Ghafir: 13] .
So he said in the sky: (Your provision) means: rain, and rain is called provision because it is the cause of provision. When Allah sends down rain, the earth brings forth water and pasture as a benefit for us and our livestock, and this is provision. How many people have their livelihood dependent on what is sent down of rain, such as crops, grass, water, and other things,Rather, Allah the Exalted said: [Surat al-Waqi'ah: 68-69] .
Can anyone send down water from the clouds? It is impossible.
Can anyone create water in the clouds? It is impossible.
Allah Mighty and Majestic is the One who takes charge of that. This is the substance of provision. Were it not for water, we would have perished,And consider His saying, the Exalted: [Surat al-Waqi'ah: 69-70] .
He did not say: If We had willed, We would not have sent it down, even though if He had willed, He would not have sent it down,But he said: [Surat al-Waqi'ah: 70] meaning: If We had willed to send it down, but We made it bitter and salty so that it could not be drunk. The regret of a person for water that is before him but which he cannot drink or find palatable is greater than his regret for water that is missing; because the water that exists but which you do not benefit from and cannot drink causes more regret than missing water. For this reason, Allah mentioned this state. Have you seen this sweet, clear, delicious rain becoming bitter and salty? How difficult would the situation be? Very difficult,And for this he said: [Surat al-Waqi'ah: 70] .
He says: [Surat al-Dhariyat: 22] So the provision is the rain,As in the noble verse: [Surat Ghafir: 13] .
And we can say: The provision in the sky is more general than that,It may be said: Indeed, in the sky is our provision from the rain, and what Allah has written for us in the Preserved Tablet of benefits and physical utilities, such as wealth and children and other things. So this statement is more comprehensive and more general.
And know that it is obligatory for the one who argues with the Qur'an and the Sunnah to observe a rule, which is: When we interpret a Qur'anic or Prophetic text with a narrower meaning and interpret it with a broader meaning, which do we take? We take the broader one; because the broader includes the narrower and not vice versa, O Allah, except if evidence indicates that it is specific, then we follow the evidence in that. But when the evidence does not indicate, take the broader one; because the broader includes the narrower and not vice versa,So here if we say: The provision intended is what is broader than rain, so the answer is correct, and it includes rain, the sun, the moon, and other things.
And his statement: meaning: And in it is what you are promised. So what are we promised? We are promised Paradise, and Paradise is in the sky and not on the earth,For this reason, Allah said in the story of Adam: [Surat al-Baqarah: 38] and the descent is from above to below, so Paradise is in the sky. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed that Paradise has levels, and that the highest of them is al-Firdaus, and that it is its highest and its middle, and this is an indication that the gardens are like a dome, its highest point is its middle,He said: (And from it burst forth the rivers of Paradise, and above it is the Throne of the Most Merciful) So it is the highest thing. We ask Allah to make us and you among its inhabitants. Indeed, He is Able to do all things. So what we are promised is Paradise. So the provision is in the sky, and the Paradise that we are promised in the Hereafter is in the sky.
So we, the people of the earth, are looking to the sky in this worldly life and in the Hereafter. So in the sky is our provision in this world, and in it is what we are promised in the Hereafter, which is Paradise. We ask Allah to make us and you among its people.
Allah the Exalted said:
And in the heaven is your provision and whatever you are promised.
It is He who shows you His signs and sends down to you from the sky, provision. But none will remember except he who turns back [in repentance].
So he said in the sky: (Your provision) means: rain, and rain is called provision because it is the cause of provision. When Allah sends down rain, the earth brings forth water and pasture as a benefit for us and our livestock, and this is provision. How many people have their livelihood dependent on what is sent down of rain, such as crops, grass, water, and other things,Rather, Allah the Exalted said:
(68) And have you seen the water that you drink? (69) Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down?
Can anyone send down water from the clouds? It is impossible.
Can anyone create water in the clouds? It is impossible.
Allah Mighty and Majestic is the One who takes charge of that. This is the substance of provision. Were it not for water, we would have perished,And consider His saying, the Exalted:
(69) Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? (70) If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful?
He did not say: If We had willed, We would not have sent it down, even though if He had willed, He would not have sent it down,But he said:
If We willed, We could make it bitter
If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful?
He says:
And in the heaven is your provision
وَفِي السَّمَاءِ رِزْقُكُمْsends down to you from the sky, provision
And we can say: The provision in the sky is more general than that,It may be said: Indeed, in the sky is our provision from the rain, and what Allah has written for us in the Preserved Tablet of benefits and physical utilities, such as wealth and children and other things. And his statement:
And what you are promised
We said, "Go down from it
So we, the people of the earth, are looking to the sky in this worldly life and in the Hereafter. So in the sky is our provision in this world, and in it is what we are promised in the Hereafter, which is Paradise. We ask Allah to make us and you among its people.
