The Ruling on Fasting and Breaking the Fast Collectively

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
His Eminence the Shaykh: What is the ruling on fasting collectively and agreeing to break the fast, whether it is in Ramadan or on Mondays and Thursdays?
No.
The most important thing is the agreement on fasting. We see that this was not a principle upon which the Companions acted; they did not make appointments to fast on Mondays and Thursdays or the like. It is feared that the matter will develop until it rises to something more severe. Then we resemble the Sufis who agree on a specific dhikr (remembrance of Allah) that they perform collectively. Therefore, it is said to the young people: If someone who fasts tomorrow will break his fast with, for example, so-and-so, there is nothing wrong with that. But agreeing to fast on a specific day is not from the way of the Companions. Furthermore, it is a problem for a person to accustom himself to not fasting unless others fast with him. For a person to fast voluntarily, whether others are with him or not, is what the righteous Salaf (earliest generations) were upon.
