Supplication for deceased parents is better for them than Hajj and 'Umrah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Some people lose their father or mother and wish to do a good deed for them. The first thing that comes to their mind is to perform Hajj on their behalf, even though they have already performed the obligatory Hajj themselves. In this case, is it better to make much supplication for them in good places and at good times, or should they perform Hajj and 'Umrah on their behalf?
It is better to make supplication for them and to perform Hajj and 'Umrah for oneself. And the evidence for this: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a person dies, his deeds are cut off except for three: ongoing charity, knowledge that benefits people, or a righteous child who makes supplication for him". He did not say: "perform Hajj on his behalf" or "perform 'Umrah on his behalf." There is no doubt that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would not leave out the better option and mention the lesser one; rather, he only mentioned the best for the Ummah, because we know that he was the most sincere advisor to creation.
And you, O human being, are in need of righteous deeds, and a day will come when you will wish that you had even one good deed in your scale.
