Hajj and 'Umrah on behalf of one's parents

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 17117 )
Q: I intend to perform 'Umrah on behalf of my mother this year, if Allah wills, and she has passed away. Please advise us, may Allah reward you with good. I have already performed 'Umrah for myself, but I have not yet performed Hajj. Is this permissible? Is there a specific intention or additions to the 'Umrah a person performs for themselves? Is there anything else I should do to seek forgiveness for my sins? I was harsh with her in my dealings during her lifetime. Thank you for your appreciation and respect, and peace be upon you and Allah's mercy.
A: If the matter is as you described, it is permissible for you to perform 'Umrah on behalf of your deceased mother. As for the harshness you showed toward your mother, you must repent to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and seek His forgiveness, make du'a' for your mother, and give charity on her behalf. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
