Fasting voluntary fasts: A person intends to fast a day

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 20970 )
Q1: In voluntary fasting, a person may intend to fast a day, but upon waking in the morning, he finds himself in a state of major ritual impurity. What is the ruling in this case? Does he complete his fast or not?
A1: If a person makes the intention to fast at the time when abstention becomes obligatory while he is in a state of major ritual impurity, his fast is valid. The basis for this is what al-Bukhari and Muslim narrated from Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her), who said:
used to get up in the morning junub from intercourse, not a dream, in Ramadan, and then he would fastكان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يصبح جنبًا من جماع لا حلم، ثم لا يفطر ولا يقضي

. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
