Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: (The Hour has drawn near)]
Allah the Exalted said: [Surat al-Najm: 57] meaning: The Day of Resurrection has drawn near; (al-Azifah) is the Day of Resurrection, and azafa means: to draw near,And from this is the saying of the poet:
The departure has drawn near, yet our mounts have not yet left our saddles, as if it were already so.
Al-Azifah is the Day of Resurrection; because the Hour is near,As Allah the Exalted said: [Surat al-Shura: 17] ,And Allah the Exalted said in the second verse: [Surat al-Ahzab: 63] so it is near, and what indicates its nearness is that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Seal of the Prophets, which means: that the matter is near. As for the fact that Allah the Exalted mentions that the matter is near, there are fourteen centuries between us and the revelation of the Qur'an, and we are now in the fifteenth,And yet Allah the Mighty and Majestic says: The Hour is near. From this we know that the lifespan of the world is long and distant, but should we take the word of those who guess and say: the past lifespan of the world was such and such? No, we do not believe these people, nor do we deny them,Meaning: Sometimes they say: They have found traces of an animal that is such and such millions of years old, or stones or the like. We do not believe this, nor do we deny it; because they do not know the unseen of the past, they only measure it by the state of the present,Meaning: They measure, for example, the age of this trace according to the influences in the present time. But what tells us that the influences in the present time are the same as the influences in the past time? We do not know. The weather may change from heat to cold and from cold to heat, and the winds and rains and other things may change, so our position regarding what we read or hear of the sciences of these people is: we do not believe it, nor do we deny it.
As for the future, we must deny it. Whoever reports about something in the future, we must deny him; because he claims knowledge of the unseen,And Allah Mighty and Majestic says: [Surat al-Naml: 65] .
So we say: meaning: The Day of Resurrection has drawn near. But can we determine when the nearness is? No, it is not possible. And whoever claims to know when the Hour will occur is one who denies Allah and His Messenger,As for Allah, Allah the Exalted said: [Surat al-Ahzab: 63] And as for the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), when Jibril asked him, he said: (Tell me about the Hour? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: The one asked about it is not more knowledgeable than the one asking) meaning: If you are ignorant of it, then I am like you. So whoever claims that the Hour will occur, for example, after a million years, or a hundred thousand years, or less or more, we must deny him and say: he is a disbeliever; because he denies Allah and His Messenger.
Allah the Exalted said:
The Hour has drawn near
أَزِفَتِ الْآزِفَةُThe departure has drawn near, yet our mounts have not yet left our saddles, as if it were already so.
Al-Azifah is the Day of Resurrection; because the Hour is near,As Allah the Exalted said:
And what will make you perceive? Perhaps the Hour is near.
وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّ السَّاعَةَ قَرِيبٌAnd what may make you perceive? Perhaps the Hour is near."
وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّ السَّاعَةَ تَكُونُ قَرِيباًAs for the future, we must deny it. Whoever reports about something in the future, we must deny him; because he claims knowledge of the unseen,And Allah Mighty and Majestic says:
Say, "None in the heavens and earth knows the unseen except Allah, and they do not perceive when they will be resurrected."
