Exegesis of His saying, the Exalted: (And what is it that prevents you from believing in Allah, while the Messenger is calling you to believe in your Lord, and He has taken your covenant, if you are believers?)
Allah the Mighty and Majestic said: [Surah al-Hadid: 8] This verse is connected to the verse before it,And it is His saying, the Exalted: [Surah al-Hadid: 7-8] meaning: What prevents you from believing in Allah, when the causes for the obligation of belief in Him have been completed, namely through the call of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family),As Allah the Mighty and Majestic said: [Surah al-Hadid: 8] meaning: Allah has taken your covenant: the pledge to believe in Him and in His messengers, so there became two causes for belief.
The first: The call of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) to it.
And the second: The covenant that Allah took from us, and that is by what He, Mighty and Majestic, gave us of fitrah (the innate natural disposition), intellect, and understanding by which we perceive what benefits us and what harms us. This is the correct meaning of the covenant. It was also said that it is the covenant that Allah the Exalted took from the children of Adam when He brought them out from his back, if the hadith reported regarding that is authentic.
The important point is that Allah the Exalted rebukes those who did not believe and says: What compelled you not to believe, when the causes for the obligation of belief have been completed in the call of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and the taking of the covenant?[Al-Baqarah 2:91] meaning: If you are believers, then adhere to the belief in Allah and His Messenger.
Allah the Mighty and Majestic said:
And why do you not believe in Allah while the Messenger invites you to believe in your Lord and He has taken your covenant, if you should [truly] be believers?
(7) Believe in Allah and His Messenger and spend out of that in which He has made you successors. For those who have believed among you and spent, there will be a great reward. (8) And why do you not believe in Allah while the Messenger invites you to believe in your Lord and He has taken your covenant, if you should [truly] be believers?
آمِنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَأَنْفِقُوا مِمَّا جَعَلَكُمْ مُسْتَخْلَفِينَ فِيهِ فَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنْكُمْ وَأَنْفَقُوا لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ كَبِيرٌ * وَمَا لَكُمْ لا تُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِwhile the Messenger invites you to believe in your Lord and He has taken your covenant
