Exegesis of His saying, the Exalted: (Then We followed in their footsteps with Our messengers)

Allah the Exalted said:
Then We sent following their footsteps Our messengers and followed [them] with Jesus, the son of Mary, and gave him the Gospelثُمَّ قَفَّيْنَا عَلَى آثَارِهِمْ بِرُسُلِنَا وَقَفَّيْنَا بِعِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ وَآتَيْنَاهُ الإِنجِيلَ
[Al-Hadid: 27] (Qaffayna) means: We followed, derived from qafw; for the one who walks behind you is your follower.
in their footstepsعَلَى آثَارِهِمْ
That is: the footsteps of Noah and Abraham and whoever was among the other messengers.
with Our messengersبِرُسُلِنَا
That is: those who followed them.
and followed [them] with Jesus, the son of Mary, and gave him the Gospelوَقَفَّيْنَا بِعِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ وَآتَيْنَاهُ الإِنجِيلَ
[Al-Hadid 57:27]
It is mentioned explicitly because there is no messenger between him, peace be upon him, and Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), nor even a prophet; there is no messenger or prophet between them,And what is said about Khalid ibn Ma'dan and others: they have a prophethood.
So it is all a lie.
and We gave him the Injilوَآتَيْنَاهُ الإِنجِيلَ
It is a book that Allah, Mighty and Majestic, revealed to 'Isa, and it is considered a complement to the Torah; for the Torah is the mother of the books among the Children of Israel.

His statement:
And We placed in the hearts of those who followed him compassion and mercy and monasticism, which they innovatedوَجَعَلْنَا فِي قُلُوبِ الَّذِينَ اتَّبَعُوهُ رَأْفَةً وَرَحْمَةً وَرَهْبَانِيَّةً ابْتَدَعُوهَا
[Al-Hadid 57:27]
.
Three things Allah placed in the hearts of the Christians who followed 'Isa as a mercy; they were the most tender of people while they were upon the law of 'Isa, the most tender of hearts and the most merciful to creation, but after they disbelieved in Muhammad, they became the harshest of people, as you know what happened between the Muslims and the Christians in the Crusades and others.
(Ra'fatan) Ra'fah is more tender than rahmah and more eloquent than it; it is of the type of rahmah but more tender and gentler.
(Wa rahbaniyyatan) It is severance from the world for worship.
(Ibtada'uha) That is: from themselves, as some sects of Muslims did, innovating a monasticism for which Allah has sent no authority, but they had tenderness and mercy.

His statement:
We did not prescribe it for them except [that they did so] seeking the approval of Allah. But they did not observe it with due observance.مَا كَتَبْنَاهَا عَلَيْهِمْ إِلَاّ ابْتِغَاءَ رِضْوَانِ اللَّهِ فَمَا رَعَوْهَا حَقَّ رِعَايَتِهَا
[Al-Hadid 57:27]
That is: We did not impose it upon them, but they sought the pleasure of Allah,And for this reason we say:
except [that they did so] seeking the approval of Allahإِلَاّ ابْتِغَاءَ رِضْوَانِ اللَّهِ
[Al-Hadid 57:27]
a disjunctive exception, but despite that, although they innovated it and chose it for themselves, they did not maintain it with its due maintenance, that is: they did not perform the obligatory maintenance of perfecting this monasticism which they innovated, but rather they dealt with it as they pleased.

His statement:
So We gave the ones who believed among them their reward, but many of them are defiantly disobedient.فَآتَيْنَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنْهُمْ أَجْرَهُمْ وَكَثِيرٌ مِنْهُمْ فَاسِقُونَ
[Al-Hadid 57:27]
.
So We gave the ones who believed among them their rewardفَآتَيْنَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنْهُمْ أَجْرَهُمْ
[Al-Hadid 57:27]
That is: their reward.
and many of them are defiantly disobedient.وَكَثِيرٌ مِنْهُمْ فَاسِقُونَ
[Al-Hadid 57:16]
Meaning: deviating from the obedience of Allah, Mighty and Majestic.
And in this is evidence that if a person innovates a religious innovation, he is not granted success in establishing it, so he is astray in the origin and astray in the branch, even if he strives until he is humble.
You will find some people who have innovated dhikr, prayers, or supplications or the like, you will find them humble, their hearts weeping, their hearts humble, but that does not benefit them, because they are upon misguidance. We ask Allah for safety and well-being for us and for you.
