The ruling on sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the first tashahhud

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Honorable Shaykh! What is the ruling on sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the first tashahhud?

Scholars have differed regarding sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) in the first tashahhud: some said it is a recommended practice (sunnah), while others said it is not a recommended practice. The correct view is that it is not a recommended practice; because when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught Ibn Abbas and Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with them) the tashahhud, he did not mention sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in it.But when it was said to him: (O Messenger of Allah! Teach us how to greet you, and how to send blessings upon you?He said: Say: "O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad") Also, a hadith was reported in the Sunan collections, which Ibn al-Qayyim mentioned in *Zad al-Ma'ad*, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to shorten this sitting until it was as if he were sitting on a hot stone, and a hot stone is a heated rock.

The stronger position: That he does not add to his saying "and Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger."
