Is it permissible for the one praying to send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the first tashahhud?

The questioner: Does he say that it is permissible to recite half of the tahiyyat in the middle tashahhud?

The Shaykh: What does he say?

The questioner: Does he say that it is permissible to recite half of the tahiyyat in the middle tashahhud?

The Shaykh: The response takes two forms. One is easy for every Muslim, and the other requires some knowledge and scholarly culture in hadith. The first answer is to say to this person: What is your evidence that it is not permissible for a Muslim to recite more than the tashahhud? Is that clear up to here?

The questioner : Is that clear?

The Shaykh: The second answer is that many authentic hadiths have come from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanding the sending of blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in every sitting that includes the tashahhud and the salam. Therefore, distinguishing between the first tashahhud and the other tashahhud would contradict the general texts. Is that clear up to here?

The questioner : Okay.

The Shaykh: Added to this is the fact that the hadith they rely on for not adding to the tashahhud in the first sitting is a hadith that is not authentic. It states:
That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he sat in the first tashahhud, was as if he were sitting on heated stones. أن النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم - كان إذا جلس في التشهد الأول فكأنَّما يجلس على رضف
,
As if he were sitting on heated stones. كأنما يجلس على رضف
. "Ridhf" in the Arabic language means heated stones. When a person sits on hot stones, it is not believable that he would stand up quickly because he cannot endure that sitting. This hadith is not authentic, and it is not permissible to restrict the general texts I mentioned earlier with it. It is good to mention, finally, one text from these general texts: "And upon you be peace, and upon you be peace." When the words of the Exalted:
Indeed, Allah confers blessing upon the Prophet, and His angels [ask Him to do so]. O you who have believed, ask [Allah to confer] blessing upon him and ask [Allah to grant him] peace.
[Al-Ahzab 33:56]
were revealed, they said: O Messenger of Allah, we have already known this salam for you. They meant by that their saying in the tashahhud: "Peace be upon you, O Prophet," and so on.
We have already known this salam for you; so how do we send blessings upon you? He said:
and say: Alahumma salli 'ala Muhammad wa 'ala ali Muhammad (O Allah, send salah upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad). قولوا : اللهم صلِّ على محمد وعلى آل محمد
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1292Hasan (Darussalam)
and so on. Thus, the Companions asked about the manner of sending blessings upon him in the prayer, because they told him: We have known the salam for you, which is the tashahhud; so how do we send blessings upon you? He answered them with what you heard. And at that time, wherever there is a sitting that includes the salam to the Messenger, there is the sending of blessings upon the Messenger. Is that clear?

The questioner : Is that clear?

The Shaykh: All right.
Other than that?
