Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: “And those who believe in Allah and His messengers—those are the sincere ones”
In Surah al-Hadid, Allah the Mighty and Majestic said: [Surah al-Hadid: 19] Belief in Allah, as we have previously discussed, encompasses four things: belief in His existence, His lordship, His divinity, and His names and attributes.
As for belief in the messengers, it entails believing in everything they reported, from the first of them to the last. It is obligatory for us to believe in what the messengers reported, provided it is authentically attributed to them. As for acting upon their laws, we do not act—or are not obligated to act—except upon the law of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), because all previous laws have been abrogated by this law.because of the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Surah al-Ma'idah: 3]
And his statement: [Surah Al-Imran: 85] And the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family): “By Him in whose hand is my soul, no one from this Ummah—meaning the Ummah of the call—neither a Jew nor a Christian, hears of me and then dies without believing in what I have brought, except that he will be among the companions of the Fire”.
Thus, belief in the messengers entails two things: First: Believing in what they reported, but on the condition that it is authentically attributed to them.
Second: Acting upon the laws, but this is only done in accordance with the law of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family); because his law abrogated all other laws.
His statement: “Those” means: those who believe in Allah and His messengers.
“Are the sincere ones” means: those who have reached a high degree of truthfulness; because “siddiq” is a form of exaggeration. Truthfulness is manifested in intention, speech, and action. As for truthfulness in intention, it is for a person to intend the face of Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) in his worship, and not intend anything else. Whoever intends something other than Allah in his worship has associated partners with Allah, and his work is not accepted. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) in the Qudsi Hadith, where Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) said: “I am the most free of all partners from association. Whoever does a deed in which he associates with Me anyone other than Me, I leave him and his association”.
The second: Truthfulness in speech, by being truthful in what one reports. Allah the Exalted has praised the truthful ones and commanded us to be with them,So the Exalted and Majestic said: [Surah al-Tawbah: 119] And He praised the emigrants who left their homes and their wealth seeking favor from Allah and His pleasure, and supporting Allah and His Messenger. Those are the truthful ones.
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) commanded truthfulness, encouraged it, and made it desirable,So he said: “Adhere to truthfulness, for truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. A man will continue to speak the truth and seek truthfulness until he is recorded by Allah as a truthful one. And beware of lying, for lying leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Fire. A man will continue to lie and seek lying until he is recorded by Allah as a liar”.
As for truthfulness in action: Following the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family); because whoever is truthful in his claim of loving Allah and His Messenger, let him follow the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).because of His saying, the Exalted: [Surah Al-Imran: 31] And some of the Salaf named this verse the Verse of the Trial—Meaning: The Verse of the Test—So if someone claims that he loves Allah and His Messenger, we say to him: Follow the Messenger. If he follows him, he is truthful; if he contradicts him, he is not truthful.
In Surah al-Hadid, Allah the Mighty and Majestic said:
And those who have believed in Allah and His messengers - those are [in the ranks of] the supporters of truth
وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَرُسُلِهِ أُولَئِكَ هُمُ الصِّدِّيقُونَAs for belief in the messengers, it entails believing in everything they reported, from the first of them to the last. It is obligatory for us to believe in what the messengers reported, provided it is authentically attributed to them. As for acting upon their laws, we do not act—or are not obligated to act—except upon the law of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), because all previous laws have been abrogated by this law.because of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion.
And his statement:
And whoever desires other than Islam as religion - never will it be accepted from him
وَمَنْ يَبْتَغِ غَيْرَ الْإِسْلامِ دِيناً فَلَنْ يُقْبَلَ مِنْهُThus, belief in the messengers entails two things: First: Believing in what they reported, but on the condition that it is authentically attributed to them.
Second: Acting upon the laws, but this is only done in accordance with the law of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family); because his law abrogated all other laws.
