Is there not in the saying of Allah the Exalted: “The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor,” and His saying: “So those will be with those upon whom Allah has bestowed favor, from among the prophets, the truthful ones…”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : In the saying of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He:
The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor صراط الذين أنعمت عليهم
[Al-Fatihah 1:7]
and
those will be with the ones upon whom Allah has bestowed favor of the prophets, the steadfast affirmers of truth, the martyrs فأولئك مع الذين أنعم الله عليهم من النبيين والصديقين والشهداء
[An-Nisa 4:69]
We said in this that it is… that Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, intended to appoint Abu Bakr?

The Shaykh : I did not understand.

The questioner : The saying of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He:
The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor صراط الذين أنعمت عليهم
[Al-Fatihah 1:7]
and he remained silent about it…
the ones upon whom Allah has bestowed favor of the prophets, the steadfast affirmers of truth, the martyrs الذين أنعمت عليهم من النبيين والصديقين والشهداء
[An-Nisa 4:69]
.

The Shaykh : Recitation

The questioner : In another verse, Allah the Exalted commanded us to follow their path and mentioned among them the truthful ones (siddeeqin). Abu Bakr is a truthful one (siddiq). Does this not indicate the caliphate of Abu Bakr?

The Shaykh : Ali is not a truthful one (siddiq).

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : This is Ali ibn Abi Talib. His naming of Abu Bakr as “the Truthful One” (al-Siddiq) does not mean that there is no one in the community who is a truthful one except him!
