Is it obligatory to seek permission from one's parents to go for Hajj, whether it is obligatory or voluntary?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He says: Is it obligatory to seek permission from one's parents to go for Hajj, whether it is obligatory or voluntary?

The Shaykh : As for when it is obligatory, their approval or permission is not required. In fact, if they prevent him from performing Hajj while it is obligatory for him, he must perform it and not obey them, based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness
[Luqman 31:15]
and the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
A creature is not to be obeyed when it involves disobedience to the "Creator.” لا طاعة لمخلوق في معصية الخالق
Mishkat al-Masabih 3696
As for when it is voluntary, he should look at what is in the best interest. If his father or mother cannot bear his absence or his being away from them, then it is better for him to stay with them, because
A man came to the Prophet (ﷺ) asking his permission to take part in Jihad. The Prophet (ﷺ) asked him, "Are your parents alive?" He replied in the affirmative. The Prophet (ﷺ) said to him, "Then exert yourself in their service." رجلا استأذن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم في الجهاد فقال له أحي والداك ؟ قال : نعم قال : ففيهما فجاهد
Sahih al-Bukhari 3004
. So, in the case of an obligation, he does not obey them, and in the case of a voluntary act, he looks at what is most beneficial. Yes.
