If a person performs Hajj without his father's permission?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : If a person performs Hajj and his father is not pleased with his Hajj?

The Shaykh : Is it an obligatory Hajj or a voluntary one?

The questioner : Voluntary.

The Shaykh : Voluntary. This depends on the issue: When is obedience to the father obligatory? Is it obligatory in everything, or not? We say that if his father forbids him from performing the voluntary Hajj, and his father needs him, then he must not perform Hajj and should remain with his father. If his father does not need him, we also look at whether he fears for his son's honor or something else, meaning a real fear, not an imagined one. In that case, he must obey his father. However, if some people do not want their son to go with the righteous youth, or they fear for him out of an imagined fear, then he may perform Hajj without his permission. The Shaykh al-Islam (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned that obedience to the parents is not obligatory except in what is beneficial for them without harm to the son. This is a good rule: there is no benefit and no harm.
