A word from the Shaykh about the Qur'an and that it is a cure for diseases through its contemplation.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and I send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets, the Imam of the righteous, and the leader of the white-ankled ones, and upon his family and his Companions, and those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment.
As for what follows, this is the thirty-first meeting, as our brother, Shaykh Mahmud ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz al-Sa'igh, the manager of the Da'wah office in Unaizah, stated. It is the monthly meeting that takes place on the night of the third Sunday of every month, and this night is the night of the nineteenth Sunday of the month of Jumada al-Thani, 1416 AH.
On this night, we speak about the interpretation of the Noble Qur'an, for Allah, Mighty and Majestic, revealed this Qur'an to the people so that they may recite it, and so that they may attain blessing through its recitation. Whoever reads a letter from it has ten good deeds for him. So if a person says:
[All] praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds -
[Al-Fatihah 1:2]
then in every letter of it are ten good deeds, because every letter of it is a good deed, and a good deed is multiplied by ten. Allah the Exalted revealed it as a cure for what is in the breasts, and the breasts are the location of the hearts. For this reason, He said:
O mankind, there has to come to you instruction from your Lord and healing for what is in the breasts
[Yunus 10:57]
and what is in the breasts are the hearts, as the Exalted said:
So have they not traveled through the earth and have hearts by which to reason and ears by which to hear? For indeed, it is not eyes that are blinded, but blinded are the hearts which are within the breasts.
[Al-Hajj 22:46]
The hearts may have a disease, and rust may be upon them, and they may have a disease either from the dominance of desire, meaning: from the dominance of a will that inclines the person away from the truth. He becomes preoccupied with the world over religion, preoccupied with the love of authority, the love of fame, the love of honor, the love of being revered and honored, instead of humility and submission to the Lord of the worlds. We seek refuge in Allah from that. The hearts have a disease of doubt, where the truth becomes confused for the person so that he does not distinguish between the truth and falsehood. Rather, he may see falsehood as truth and truth as falsehood, and thus he perishes. The hearts have rust upon them, and their rust is sins. And when sins accumulate upon the hearts, they block the paths of good from them. Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said:
(13) When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples." (14) No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning.
[Al-Mutaffifin 83:13-14]
Nay, meaning: it is not like the tales of the ancients
Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning.
[Al-Mutaffifin 83:14]
rust accumulated upon them and gathered upon them what they used to earn of evil deeds, until they saw the greatest speech they had ever seen as the tales of the ancients. So know that whenever you are prevented from understanding the speech of Allah, that is only due to sins that have accumulated upon your heart. Otherwise, if your heart were pure and clear, you would see that the speech of Allah the Exalted is the greatest speech, the truest speech, the best speech, and the most excellent speech. The Qur'an is a cure for bodies, even bodies; the Qur'an is a cure for them. Let us leave aside the diseases of the hearts; the diseases of the hearts are hidden diseases that are treated by this great revelation. But even physical diseases are treated by this great revelation. Even physical diseases are treated! A group of people descended upon a people whom the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had sent on a raid, but those upon whom they descended did not host them. So the Companions moved aside to one side. Then Allah sent a scorpion with a severe sting, and it stung their master, so he was afflicted by it. They sought a healer to heal him, and they said: Perhaps with these people there is a healer. So they came to the Companions and said: Your master has been stung, do you have a healer? They said: Yes, we have someone who can recite ruqyah, but do you have a reward, meaning compensation? They said: Yes, for you is this flock of sheep, save our companion. So one of the people went and began to recite over this stung person with the Opening of the Book. What is the Opening of the Book?
[All] praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds -
[Al-Fatihah 1:2]
He recited it over him, and he rose up as if he had been untied from a rope, meaning: as if he were a camel whose rope had been untied. He sprang up energetic due to the recitation of the Fatihah over him. So they took the flock until they reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him about it. He said:
Narrated Abu Sa’id Al Khudri: Some of the Companions of Prophet (ﷺ) went on a journey. They encamped with a clan of the Arabs and sought hospitality from them, but they refused to provide them with any hospitality. The chief of the clan was stung by a scorpion or bitten by a snake. They gave him all sorts of treatment, but nothing gave him relied. One of them said: Would that you had gone to those people who encamped with you ; some of them might have something which could give you relief to your companion. (So they went and) one of them said: Our chief has been stung by a scorpion or bitten by a snake. We administered all sorts of medicine but nothing gave him relief. Has any of you anything, i.e. charm, which gives healing to our companion. One of those people said: I shall apply charm; we sought hospitality from you, but you refused to entertain us. I am not going to apply charm until you give me some wages. So they offered them a number of sheep. He then came to and recited Faithat-al-Kitab and spat until he was cured as if he were set free from a bond. Thereafter they made payment of the wages as agreed by them. They said: Apportion (the wages). The man who applied the charm said: Do not do until we come to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and consult him. So they came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) next morning and mentioned it to him. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: From where did you learn that it was a charm ? You have done right. Give me a share along with you.
Sunan Abi Dawud 3418Sahih (Al-Albani)
He said this, may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him, to reassure their hearts and to remove what was in their hearts of doubt. Then he said to the one who recited it:
How did you know it was Ruqyah?
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2064Sahih (Darussalam)
This is a tested matter, but it does not benefit except one who believes in it, both the reciter and the one over whom it is recited. If the reciter is a believer and the one over whom it is recited is a believer in the benefit of this Qur'an, the patient benefits from it. But if he recites it by way of doubt and experimentation, it does not benefit. The Qur'an is a cure even for physical diseases, as in this example. And it has been tested that it is written on al-haza. Do you know al-haza? Yes, sores and boils that appear on the foot or the hand or the forearm. It is written on them
and it is hit by a whirlwind containing fire and is burned
[Al-Baqarah 2:266]
If this verse is written on them once or twice, it disappears by the permission of Allah; it disappears completely. If you placed on them all the known medicines, they would not benefit. But write this verse on them, and they will dry up and disappear. This is a tested matter. In difficult childbirth, when childbirth becomes difficult for a woman sometimes, read in water, or write with saffron on the walls of the vessel the verses in which Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, is concerned with the pregnancy, such as:
Allah knows what every female carries and what the wombs lose [prematurely] or exceed. And everything with Him is by due measure.
[Ar-Ra'd 13:8]
and such as:
And no female conceives nor does she give birth except with His knowledge
[Fatir 35:11]
and such as:
(1) When the earth is shaken with its [final] earthquake (2) And the earth discharges its burdens
[Az-Zalzalah 99:1-2]
and similar verses. Then the woman whose childbirth is difficult drinks it and wipes around the area, and by the permission of Allah, the delivery of the fetus will be made easy. But as I said, the matter requires what? It requires faith from whom? From the reciter and the one over whom it is recited. So the result is that the entire Qur'an is good. But was the Qur'an revealed for this only? No.
[This is] a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], that they might reflect upon its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded.
[Sad 38:29]
Contemplating the verses means: reflecting on their meaning, and seeking to know them.
and that people of understanding may be reminded
meaning: he takes a lesson. So Allah, Mighty and Majestic, began first with knowing the meaning, then with action, because action without knowing the meaning is not possible, and perhaps the action will corrupt more than it fixes.
