The questioner : He says: O honorable Shaykh, what is the ruling on one who memorizes portions of the Qur'an for the sake of the curriculum, and then, after the exam results, does not continue with what he memorized and then forgets it? What is the ruling on this?

The Shaykh : I see that this person is a loser in reality, contrary to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family):
Keep refreshing your knowledge of the Qur'an, for I swear by Him in Whose Hand is the life of Mahammad that it is more liable to escape than camels which are hobbled.تعاهدوا القرآن، فوالذي نفسي بيده لهو أشد تفلتاً من الإبل في عقلها
Sahih Muslim 791
And I say: As long as Allah has bestowed upon him the grace of memorizing what is easy of the Qur'an, let him continue and let him review the Qur'an, for:
The best among you is he who learns and teaches the Qur'an. خيركم من تعلم القرآن وعلمه
Sunan Abi Dawud 1452Sahih (Al-Albani)
