The Shaykh : And since it is necessary to follow the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), it is necessary that we know how the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Hajj? So let us mention that briefly.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) performed Hajj in the tenth year of the Hijrah. He did not perform Hajj before that; after the Hijrah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not perform Hajj except this one, because Makkah was under the authority of the polytheists until the eighth year. In the ninth year, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) sent Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) to be the leader of the pilgrims in the ninth year. He remained in Madinah because people were coming to Madinah to learn the rulings of Islam. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained in Madinah. He performed Hajj in the tenth year and informed the people of it. About forty thousand Muslims performed Hajj with him. He left Madinah and stopped at Dhul-Hulaifah, entered the state of ihram from there, and traveled to Makkah. When he reached Makkah, he circumambulated the House seven times. He ran in the first three circuits and walked in the remaining four. He was wearing his cloak in the manner of idtab. Idtab is when a person places the middle of the cloak under his right armpit and its ends on his left shoulder. When he completed the seven circuits, he proceeded to the Station of Ibrahim and recited:[Al-Baqarah 2:125]. Then he prayed two rak'ahs behind the Station. In the first, he recited after al-Fatihah, and in the second, he recited [Al-Ikhlas 112:1] after al-Fatihah. He shortened these two rak'ahs in order to clear the place for whoever wanted to pray there. Then he returned to the Corner—meaning the Black Stone—and touched it. Then he went out of the door to al-Safa. When he approached al-Safa, he recited: [Al-Baqarah 2:158]. I begin with what Allah began with. So he began with al-Safa, climbed it, faced the qiblah, raised his hands, and began to remember Allah and supplicate to Him. Among the dhikr of Allah that he said was: Sahih Muslim 1218a. Then he supplicated, then he returned to the dhikr a second time, then he supplicated, then he repeated it a third time. Then, yes, he descended walking until he reached the bottom of the valley, meaning the course of the wadi. He was descending, so when he reached the bottom of the valley, he hurried, hurrying with great speed, until his lower garment was swirling around him from the intensity of the sa'y. When he reached the ascent, he began walking to al-Marwah. He completed seven circuits; from al-Safa to al-Marwah is one circuit, and from al-Marwah to al-Safa is another circuit. So the beginning of his sa'y was from al-Safa, and the end was what? Al-Marwah. Then he ordered his companions who had not brought sacrificial animals to exit their state of ihram and make it an 'Umrah. As for him (peace and blessings be upon him), he did not exit the state of ihram because he had brought sacrificial animals. Whoever brings sacrificial animals does not exit the state of ihram until the sacrificial animals reach their place. It was difficult for the Companions how to switch from Hajj to 'Umrah? They said, "O Messenger of Allah, we have designated Hajj." He said, "Do what I order you." And he said: Jami` at-Tirmidhi 932Sahih (Darussalam), meaning that your transition from Hajj to 'Umrah does not mean invalidating the Hajj, because the 'Umrah has entered into the Hajj. Then he finished the sa'y and exited, (peace and blessings be upon him), and stopped at al-Abtah. He did not stop in Makkah in order to clear it for those who needed it. With him, as I told you, were forty thousand. He stopped there until it became the eighth day of Dhul-Hijjah. When it was the eighth day of Dhul-Hijjah, he (peace and blessings be upon him) departed to Mina. And the Muslims who had exited from their 'Umrah entered the state of ihram on that day. He remained in Mina and prayed with them Zuhr, 'Asr, Maghrib, 'Isha', and Fajr. When the sun rose, he traveled to 'Arafah and stopped in a place called Namirah to rest there. When the sun passed its zenith, he (peace and blessings be upon him) departed heading to 'Arafah. He stopped in the bottom of the valley, meaning the valley of 'Aranah. He delivered a eloquent and great sermon to the people. Then Bilal called the adhan, and he prayed Zuhr and 'Asr combined, advancing the later prayer. Then he traveled to the standing place that he chose to stand in, in 'Arafah at the rocks east of 'Arafah. He stood riding his camel, (peace and blessings be upon him), supplicating to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) until the sun set. When the sun set, he departed from 'Arafah heading to Muzdalifah until he reached Muzdalifah, and he prayed Maghrib and 'Isha' there. Then he lay down until Fajr came. So he prayed Fajr when the dawn became clear to him. Then he mounted his mount until he reached al-Mash'ar al-Haram, and he stood there facing the qiblah, supplicating to Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He) until it became very light. Then he continued traveling to Mina. He took the middle road, because Mina at that time had three, three roads, so he took the middle road because it was easier, easier in reaching the Jamarat al-Aqabah. And he began with the Jamarat al-Aqabah when he arrived at Mina. He stoned it with seven pebbles, saying takbir with each pebble. And he said to his companions—and his saying to his companions is a saying to his Ummah—he said: . Then after the stoning, he turned to the place of sacrifice. He had offered one hundred camels, he slaughtered sixty-three of them with his own hand, and he gave the rest to 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, who slaughtered them. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered a piece from each camel to be put in a pot and cooked. So he ate from its meat and drank from its broth, implementing the saying of Allah the Exalted: . Then he shaved his head, exited the state of ihram, and descended to Makkah, and he performed the Tawaf al-Ifadah, and those with him were performing Qiran. They performed the Tawaf al-Ifadah with him. And they did not perform sa'y between al-Safa and al-Marwah, because they had already performed sa'y after the Tawaf al-Qudum. As for the Mutamatti' who had exited from the 'Umrah, they performed sa'y between al-Safa and al-Marwah after the Tawaf al-Ifadah. Then he returned to Mina and stayed there for three days after the festival. He stoned on the first day the first pillar, then the middle one, then the Aqabah. He supplicated between the first and second pillars, and between the second and third. As for the third, he did not stand after it to supplicate. On the thirteenth day, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) descended from Mina after he had stoned the three pillars and before he prayed Zuhr. He descended to a place called al-Mahshab. At the end of the night, he ordered the departure. So he (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) departed. And he came to the Sacred Mosque, and he performed the Tawaf al-Wada', and he prayed Fajr. Then he returned to Madinah, may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him.
