The Description of Wudu in the Qur'an.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :
O you who have believed, when you rise to [perform] prayer يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا قُمْتُمْ إِلَى الصَّلاةِ
[Al-Ma'idah 5:6]
Wash your faces. فَاغْسِلُوا وُجُوهَكُمْ
This is the first pillar of the pillars of wudu, and what comes before it is a recommended practice. And what is that? The invocation of the Name of Allah, washing the hands three times. This is a recommended practice; if a person does it, it is more complete, and if he does not do it, there is no blame on him.
Wash your faces. فَاغْسِلُوا وُجُوهَكُمْ
Wash without rubbing, and if you rub, there is nothing wrong with it, especially if there is some oil on your face. So here it becomes emphasized that you rub the face, because the oil will slip away with the water. The face extends from ear to ear, so the hair between the cheek and the ear is considered part of the face. This is in terms of width. In terms of length: from the curve of the forehead, whether the hair descends from it or ascends from it, from the curve of the forehead to the bottom of the beard. It is necessary to wash all of this, and it includes rinsing the mouth and sniffing water into the nose. So if someone were to say: "Allah did not mention rinsing the mouth and sniffing water into the nose," the answer is very easy: Where is the location of the nose, which is the place for sniffing water, and where is the location of the mouth, which is the place for rinsing and sniffing? So they are included in the face, and washing the nose by sniffing water and washing the mouth by rinsing. Allah the Exalted said:
and your forearms to the elbows وَأَيْدِيَكُمْ إِلَى الْمَرَافِقِ
[Al-Ma'idah 5:6]
"To the elbows" means: Where does it start? The tips of the fingers, because when He said:
and your forearms to the elbows وَأَيْدِيَكُمْ إِلَى الْمَرَافِقِ
[Al-Ma'idah 5:6]
it becomes necessary that it be from the tips of the fingers to the elbow, and the elbows are included in the wudu, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) clarified that. And here we pause to point out what many people overlook, where they used to wash the hand from the palm to the elbow, thinking that the washing of it was completed before washing the face. This is not correct. It is necessary to wash it from the tips of the fingers to the elbows. Now, if a person is wearing a jacket that is difficult to take off, what does he do? Does he wipe over it? Is not the garment of the two men, the leather socks, wiped over? Now, why don't we say: If you are wearing a jacket and the sleeve is tight, wipe over it? We say: No. It is not permissible. And the evidence for this is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the expedition to Tabuk, and Tabuk, as you know, is cold, was wearing a jacket with tight sleeves. So when it was difficult for him to take his arm out of it, he pulled the hand out, he pulled his hand out like this and lowered it from underneath and washed it. So it is necessary that you wash your hands in all cases, and wiping is not possible. Now, Allah the Exalted said:
and your forearms to the elbows وَأَيْدِيَكُمْ إِلَى الْمَرَافِقِ
[Al-Ma'idah 5:6]
and wipe your heads وَامْسَحُوا بِرُؤُوسِكُمْ
"Wipe" and He did not say "wash," as a concession for the servants, because if He had obligated us to wash the head, we would have said: "We hear and obey." But the Merciful Lord, Mighty and Majestic, made the obligation of the head to be wiping, because the head is the head of the body, and if a person washed it, the water would run over what? Over his body. And what would result from the hardship, especially on cold days? A great hardship would result. And because the head is usually covered with hair, and if you pour water on the hair or wash it, when will it dry? It takes a period of time. So it was from the wisdom of the Wisest of the wise and the mercy of the Most Merciful of the merciful that He made the obligation of the head to be wiping, wiping. Allah did not mention the ears, so we say: Where is the location of the ears? In the head. And if they are in the head, they are included in the generality of His saying:
and wipe your heads وَامْسَحُوا بِرُؤُوسِكُمْ
And praise be to Allah for His clarification, meaning that no matter how much a person tries to drop the wiping of the ears, he will not be able to, neither from the Qur'an nor from the Sunnah. As for the Sunnah: it was mass-transmitted from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or widely reported from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), because he used to wipe his ears with his head. But how does one wipe the head? Wipe the head as you wish, with one hand, running it over the entire head, or with both hands, and one wipe is sufficient. But it is better to start from the front of the head at the forehead - like this with your hands on your head - then pass them over the head to the neck, then return to the place where you started, then wipe the ears, each ear with one hand, unless you cannot do it with one hand, then start with the right ear before the left. How do you wipe the ears? Wiping the ears is easy. Insert the index finger into the ear canal, into the opening, insert it only without running it around, because running it around means repeating the wiping. And pass the thumb over the back of the ear. How many times? Once. For this reason, the scholars said: "Everything that is wiped, repeating its wiping is disliked". Look at the rule: Everything that is wiped, repeating its wiping is disliked. The head, the leather socks, the bandage; do not wipe it in tayammum with one wipe. But look at *Fiqh al-Deen*: Why did the scholars dislike repeating the wiping? They said: Because Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, made a concession in his purification by making it wiping, and the concession in the manner indicates that the concession in the quantity is better. The quantity means what? The number. And the manner: wiping instead of washing. So we say: Do not repeat the wiping of the head or the wiping of the ears. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said:
and wash your feet to the ankles وَأَرْجُلَكُمْ إِلَى الْكَعْبَيْنِ
[Al-Ma'idah 5:6]
meaning: Wash your feet to the ankles, and the ankles are: the two protruding bones at the bottom of the lower leg, and they are included in the washing. And a person should interlace his fingers, especially the toes of the feet that are close together, because people differ in their toes; some have their toes close together, some have them spread apart, and some have the big toe and the one next to it spread apart while the rest are close together. And despite all of this, we say that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said to al-Qa'ib ibn al-Shirah:
Interlace between the fingers خلل بين الأصابع
,
Interlace between the fingers خلل بين الأصابع
So interlacing the fingers is a recommended practice, and it is obligatory that you be certain or that it is most likely in your opinion that the water entered between the fingers. The wudu is complete.
