The questioner : In the past year, I performed the obligatory Hajj seeking forgiveness and to fulfill one of the pillars of Islam. During the farewell tawaf, I became ritually impure while performing the tawaf, and I was ignorant of the ruling, meaning I broke my wudu. I continued until the end of the tawaf and then prayed two rak'ahs at the Maqam. I was also ignorant of the ruling, or I ignored it due to the heavy crowd. What is the ruling in this matter, and what must I do? Is my Hajj accepted? Please inform us; may Allah reward you with good?

The Shaykh : As for your Hajj, it is valid because the farewell tawaf is separate from it.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : It is an independent obligation. Therefore, there is no deficiency in your Hajj. However, becoming ritually impure during the tawaf invalidates it according to those who hold that ritual purity from hadath is a condition for tawaf. If it is invalidating, then you are considered to have not performed the farewell tawaf. The farewell tawaf is obligatory according to the stronger opinion among the scholars, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded it. He said:
No one should depart until his last act is at the House. لا ينفر أحد حتى يكون ءاخر عهده بالبيت
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 9:969
And Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) said:
The people were ordered to perform the Tawaf of the Ka`ba (Tawaf-al-Wada`) as the lastly thing, before leaving (Mecca), except the menstruating women who were excused. أمر الناس أن يكون ءاخر عهدهم بالبيت، إلا أنه خفّف عن الحائض
Sahih al-Bukhari 1755
His statement:
It was relaxed for the menstruating woman خفّف عن الحائض
indicates that it is obligatory for everyone else. If it were not obligatory, it would have been relaxed for her and for everyone else. The rule of the scholars, or the majority of them, is that whoever leaves an obligation must sacrifice an animal in Mecca and distribute it to the poor. What I understood from the questioner's words, where he said "I was ignorant or I ignored it," is that there was negligence in his proceeding with his tawaf and praying the two rak'ahs after it, having become ritually impure during it. We hope that Allah the Exalted will forgive him and grant him mercy. He must repent to Allah the Exalted and Supreme for what he did and not return to it. Rather, if he becomes ritually impure during the tawaf, let him exit. If that is difficult for him, let him seek reward from Allah the Exalted and Supreme.

The questioner : This is a message that reached the program from the listener whose name was coded as S.A.M. Al-Oushn Al-Suwaydi. She says in her message.
