What is your opinion of those who prefer the Night of the Ascension over the Night of Decree?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is the ruling of the Shari'ah, in your view, regarding one who claims that the Night of the Ascension is superior to the Night of Decree?

The Shaykh : What we see in this matter is that the Night of Decree is superior to the Night of the Ascension for the Muslim community. As for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), the Night of the Ascension, which is the Night of the Mi'raj, may be superior for him because it was specific to him, and he attained in it virtues that he did not attain in any other night. Therefore, we do not absolutely prefer the Night of Decree, nor do we absolutely prefer the Night of the Ascension, which is the Night of the Mi'raj. It seems the questioner intends to refer to what some people do on the twenty-seventh night of Rajab, celebrating this night under the assumption that it is the Night of the Ascension and the Mi'raj. In reality, this has not been established historically. It is not established that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was taken up in that night. Rather, what appears is that the Mi'raj occurred in Rabi' al-Awwal. Even if it were established that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was taken up on the twenty-seventh night of Rajab, that would not imply that there should be a celebration for that night or that it should be distinguished by specific acts of worship. Thus, celebrating the Night of the Mi'raj on the twenty-seventh of Rajab has no basis historically and no basis in the Shari'ah. If that is the case, then celebrating that night is nonsense and a religious innovation.
