The questioner : I am a woman of approximately sixty-five years of age, and twenty years ago, Allah decreed that I placed a large container over three of the young sheep. It was at night in severe cold, and in the morning we found that these small sheep had died, appearing to have suffocated. Knowing that when I placed that large container over them, I intended to preserve them and protect them from the cold, my question is: Am I required to pay an expiation or something similar, and is there any sin on me for this?
The Shaykh : You are not required to pay an expiation for these sheep that died, nor is there any sin on you for this action, because you did it intending to do good. And Allah the Exalted said:[At-Tawbah 9:91].
Had you known that it would suffocate them until they died, had you known that, you would have done something else. But this was the best you could estimate at that time, so there is no sin on you, and you are doing good. And Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) loves those who do good. Yes.
The questioner : May Allah bless you. The listener says in his message.

There is not upon the doers of good any cause [for blame]
