The questioner : We are a group of young men who hunt a type of bird called the quail at night, and some of our brothers objected to us, saying that hunting birds in their nests at night is forbidden, citing the hadith:
Do not go to the birds in their nests at night لا تأتوا الطيور في أوكارها ليلاً
And how authentic is this hadith?

The Shaykh : This hadith is not authentic from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Hunting is permissible at night and during the day, except that at night it is dangerous because a person might climb a tree that harms him or fall into a pit due to his eagerness to catch the game. As for the hunting itself, it is lawful at night and during the day. Allah the Exalted said:
It is He who created for you all of that which is on the earth هُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ لَكُمْ مَا فِي الأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا
[Al-Baqarah 2:29]
and He did not restrict it to a specific time over another. Yes.
