What is the ruling on wiping over socks during ablution, especially when a person is working as a wage-earner for others?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The second question asks, in the listener’s section, what is the ruling on wiping over socks during ablution, especially when a person is working as a wage-earner for others?

The Shaykh : Wiping over socks is a recommended practice (sunnah) if a person puts them on while in a state of ritual purity and does not perform the full ritual bath (ghusl), and if this is done within the time limit prescribed by the Shari'ah, which is one day and one night for a resident and three days and their nights for a traveler. If a person has socks on that he put on while in a state of ritual purity, he wipes over them instead of washing his feet, but only within the specified time limit, which is one day and one night for a resident and three days and their nights for a traveler, and only in the case of minor ritual impurity. If the time limit for wiping expires while the person is still in a state of ritual purity, his purity remains and is not invalidated by the expiration of the time limit, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) only set a time limit for wiping and did not set a time limit for purity. However, he does not wipe after the time limit has expired, because what goes beyond the Shari'ah limit is rejected by its doer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected. من عمل عملاً ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد
