In a surah, Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, says: (Had he not seen the proof of his Lord). What is the meaning of the proof, and what is intended by it?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He says: In Surat Yusuf, Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, says:
Had he not seen the proof of his Lord لولا أن رأى برهان ربه
What is the meaning of the proof, and what is intended by it?

The Shaykh : Allah the Exalted says:
And she certainly determined [to seduce] him, and he would have inclined to her had he not seen the proof of his Lord ولقد همت به وهم بها لولا أن رأى برهان ربه
[Yusuf 12:24]
And the proof of his Lord that prevented him from carrying out what he had contemplated is faith, awe, and fear of Allah, Mighty and Majestic. Indeed, a person’s faith in Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and his fear and awe of Him protect him from falling into what Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has forbidden. And whoever is more knowledgeable about Allah is more fearful of Him and has greater awe of Him. Allah the Exalted said:
Only those fear Allah, from among His servants, who have knowledge. إنما يخشى الله من عباده العلماء
[Fatir 35:28]
.
So he, peace and blessings be upon him, saw the proof of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, which is the light that Allah the Exalted cast into him from faith and awe, and that prevented him from what he had contemplated.
As for the statement that his father appeared to him in his imagination warning him against it, that is a weak statement that the verse does not indicate. What we have mentioned is the necessary and fitting position for Yusuf, peace be upon him.

The questioner : Thank you, may Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh, and may Allah magnify your reward for what you have presented to us and to the honorable listening brothers.
