Allah the Exalted said: “And indeed, she desired him, and he desired her.” What is this desire from Yusuf (peace be upon him), and what is the correct statement regarding it?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The saying of Allah the Exalted:
And she certainly determined [to seduce] him, and he would have inclined to her
[Yusuf 12:24]
in the Surah of Yusuf. What is this desire from Yusuf (peace be upon him)? And what is the correct statement regarding it? And what is the meaning of His saying:
The proof of his Lord
What is intended by this proof?

The Shaykh : Yes, the exegetes (may Allah have mercy on them) mention in this verse, in its interpretation, strange things that are far from the indication of the wording. If we read the verse and the one before it, which is the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And she, in whose house he was, sought to seduce him. She closed the doors
[Yusuf 12:23]
Tried to seduce him راودته
meaning she tried to make him do what she wanted,
She closed the doors and said, "Come, you."
[Yusuf 12:23]
meaning come, go ahead,
He said, "[I seek] the refuge of Allah قال معاذ الله
[Yusuf 12:23]
Indeed, he is my master, who has made good my residence
[Yusuf 12:23]
meaning Allah the Mighty and Majestic,
Indeed, the wrongdoers will not succeed.
[Al-An'am 6:21]
meaning if I did it, I would be a wrongdoer, and the wrongdoer does not succeed,
And she certainly determined [to seduce] him, and he would have inclined to her had he not seen the proof of his Lord
[Yusuf 12:24]
Imagine a young man, the doors were closed between him and people, and a woman, one of the most beautiful of women, who at the same time was his mistress and had control over him, tried to seduce him. What would happen? There would be desire, because man is human. For this reason, he said:
Had he not seen the proof of his Lord
So what is the proof? The proof is the light and faith in his heart that stood between him and what the woman requested. This indicates the perfection of his chastity (peace and blessings be upon him) and the perfection of his prioritizing what pleases Allah over what he desires. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
There are seven whom Allah will shade in His shade on the day on which there is no shade except His shade
Muwatta Malik 51:14
and he mentioned among them one
a man whom a beautiful woman of high rank seduces (for illicit relation), but he (rejects this offer by saying):" I fear Allah" دعته امرأة ذات منصب وجمال فقال إني أخاف الله
Sahih Muslim 1031a
Is this a merit or a defect? That a man is invited to commit a sin in a place where no one sees him except Allah, and then he says, he says: “Indeed, I fear Allah.” Is this a merit or a defect? It is a merit. So it is a merit for Yusuf (peace be upon him) that he left this matter for Allah despite the strength of the caller and the absence of a barrier. There was nothing to stop him, there was nothing to stop him, and the caller in his case was strong or weak? Strong, because he was a young man, and yet he left this for Allah.
Had he not seen the proof of his Lord
Allah the Exalted said:
And thus [it was] that We should avert from him evil and immorality. Indeed, he was of Our chosen servants.
[Yusuf 12:24]
Indeed, he was of Our servants who were sincere. As for the saying of some that she desired him to commit the sin, and he desired to strike her, this is an error. Because if he struck her in this situation, would it be said that Allah turned away from him evil and indecency? Striking this criminal might be justified. In any case, the verse is clear and indicates the perfection of the chastity of Yusuf (peace and blessings be upon him), and what happened from his part is considered a great merit for him. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) made it one of the deeds under which Allah shades the one who does it on the Day when there is no shade except His shade. Yes.
