I read about the prayer of need in more than one book, so what is your opinion, O honorable Shaykh, regarding these prayers? We ask for your guidance on this matter?

The questioner : He says: I read about the prayer of need in more than one book, so what is your opinion, O honorable Shaykh, regarding these prayers? We ask for your guidance on this matter?

The Shaykh : And the prayer of need is like the prayer of tasbih; nothing authentic has been established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding it. When a person needs something from his Lord—and he is always in need of his Lord—he should ask Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) using the known, authentic descriptions that have been transmitted from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and are well known among the Muslim community.
As for this prayer, there is no authentic basis to which one can refer. Therefore, it is not befitting for a person to perform it.
