The questioner : This is a listener to the program, Sa'id Saleh, who says in this question: The phrase “Shawruk wa Hidayat Allah” (Your advice and Allah’s guidance) has become common on the tongues of many people; such a phrase is said when some people consult one another about something. What do you say about this, O honorable Shaykh?

The Shaykh : The answer: I say regarding this that the questioner’s intention is that he is consulting this man and asking Allah for guidance, so it is as if he said, “I am awaiting your advice and hoping for the guidance of Allah, Mighty and Majestic.” This meaning is permissible and there is no blame in it. A person should seek guidance from his Lord and ask Him for guidance, and consult his brothers regarding what is difficult for him. However, what should be done is to begin with Allah’s guidance first, saying “Hidayat Allah wa Shawruk” (Allah’s guidance and your advice), meaning your advice. If he specifies it with “then,” that is more appropriate and better, saying “Hada Allah thumma mushawwaratuk” (The guidance of Allah, then your advice). Yes.
