Buying some clothes for boys or girls that they outgrow, so they no longer fit them even though they are still usable

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The listener from the Kingdom says: When we buy some clothes for boys or girls and they outgrow them, they no longer fit them even though they are still usable. Is it permissible for us to dress a girl in a boy's clothes, or the other way around? We ask for guidance on this matter.

The Shaykh : It is not permissible to dress a girl in a boy's clothes, nor a boy in a girl's clothes, because this involves a man imitating a woman and a woman imitating a man. It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he cursed the women who imitate men and the men who imitate women. The scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) have explicitly stated that it is forbidden to dress a boy in what is forbidden for an adult to wear. Accordingly, if a person has surplus clothing that is no longer suitable for the one who wears it, the best course is to give it in charity, either to the needy in his own country or to the needy in another country by sending it to them. It is not permissible in this situation to destroy it while it is possible to benefit from it, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade the waste of wealth and the destruction of what is suitable for use when there is a possibility of finding someone to use it, as this constitutes a waste of wealth.
