The questioner : In the hadith of Dhabibah bint al-Zubayr, when she said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "I want to perform Hajj, and I am ill," he said to her:
Perform Hajj and make a condition حجي واشترطي
.

The Shaykh : The meaning is that she says: if something holds me back, meaning if a preventer stops me from completing the rites, then I am released at the time that preventer exists. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) guided her to make a condition because she was afraid she would not be able to complete the rites due to illness. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) guided her to make a condition. As for one who is not afraid of completing the rites, he does not make a condition, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions did not make this condition when entering the state of ihram. For this reason, the stronger position is that making a condition is neither recommended nor prescribed except for one who is afraid of not completing his rites. This is the position that reconciles the evidence. As for one who denies making a condition absolutely, or affirms making a condition absolutely, he must fall into contradicting some of the texts. Some people say: "In this time, we are afraid in every case because of the many car accidents." Our answer to this is that car accidents, in terms of their frequency, are nothing. Cars number in the hundreds of thousands, and if one or two, or ten, or twenty accidents occur out of hundreds of thousands, that is nothing. Accidents happened even in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).

The questioner : May Allah send prayers and peace upon him.

The Shaykh : It is authentic from the hadith of 'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man's mount fell off on the day of 'Arafah and he died. This is an accident that occurred in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). So the point is that accidents are possible even in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). And yet, he did not guide the community to make a condition except for one who was afraid. And my saying: "hundreds of thousands of cars"—my tongue got ahead of me, otherwise I do not think they reach hundreds of thousands, but they reach tens of thousands. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you, O Shaykh. In a final question for the listener Khaldah S M, a final section consisting of two parts.
