The ruling on taking a kunya, and the mention of the story of Aisha and her kunya.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The Sunnah is for a Muslim to take a kunya, even if he is not married, and even if he is not of marriageable age, and even if he is a young boy who has not reached the age of accountability. This is what Aisha said: “O Messenger of Allah, all your wives have kunyas, except me.” So he said to her: اكتني بابن أختك Take a kunya with the name of your sister’s son. Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr’s mother was Asma, who is Aisha’s sister. So from that day, her kunya became Umm Abdullah, and she never gave birth at all. That means the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away before she bore a child from him. This is a neglected Sunnah in the Muslim world, especially in the non-Arab countries. We, the Albanians, the Turks, and others, do not know “Abu So-and-So,” even in the non-Arab language. For example, the word for father in Albanian and other languages is shared with many narrators. The word for father, for example, is “Baba,” and you know that “Baba” is the head of the Christians in Rome, for example. But instead of saying “O my father” or “O my parent,” they say “Baba” to him. So if one wants to take a kunya with his father’s name, he would say “Baba Muhammad,” “Baba Ahmad,” “Baba Ismail.” But it is better to say “Abu Muhammad,” “Abu Ahmad,” “Abu Ismail,” and so on, because this is from the influence of the Arabic Islamic call on the non-Arab peoples.
