The Shaykh mentioned some of the evidence for the punishment of the grave that came in hadiths containing clarification of some of the rulings of the Shari'ah.

The Shaykh : You know, for example, the hadith in al-Bukhari from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: He passed by two graves and said:
Indeed, they are being punished, and they are not being punished for something great. As for one of them, he used to go about spreading talebearing. And as for the other, he did not protect himself from urine. In a narration, it says he did not conceal himself from urine. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that a branch from a date palm be brought to him, and he split it into two pieces and placed one piece on the head of each of their graves. They asked him about that, and he said: Perhaps Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will lighten their punishment as long as they are moist.

This hadith is in Sahih al-Bukhari, and you hear that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) explicitly stated in it that these two were Muslims, and yet they are being punished. So the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for them that Allah would lighten their punishment for as long as these two branches remained moist.
Likewise, there is another hadith in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) says:
Protect yourselves from urine, for much of the punishment of the grave is due to urine. استنزهوا من البول ، فإن أكثر عذاب القبر من البول
.
And so on; the hadiths are numerous, and very numerous. Among them is also, and I will not lengthen this, the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he passed by two graves of polytheists who died in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If it were not that you bury one another, I would have let you hear the punishment of the grave. لولا أن تدافنوا لأسمعتكم عذاب القبر
.
Despite the coming of these hadiths regarding the punishment of the grave for some polytheists and for some Muslims, these hadiths were nullified, and they did not believe in them or in their content, on the philosophy that they are ahad reports. So what is their position regarding the hadith of Abu Hurayrah:
When one of you sits in the final tashahhud, let him seek refuge with Allah from four things, among which is the punishment of the grave. إذا جلس أحدكم في التشهد الأخير فليستعذ بالله من أربع منها عذاب القبر
? If they seek refuge with Allah from the punishment of the grave, implementing this ruling of the Shari'ah, which is their obligation, because they do not differ with us that it is obligatory to act upon ahad reports in matters of rulings, then this is a ruling of the Shari'ah in which the Messenger (peace be upon him) commanded us to make this supplication in the final tashahhud. If they act upon it, as is their claim, and their claim is the truth because it is with us here, how can they act upon it while they do not believe in the punishment of the grave? They do not accept the punishment of the grave.
