The Shaykh : You know, for example, if Allah wills, the hadith of al-Bukhari from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by two graves and said: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that a palm branch be brought to him, so he split it into two pieces and placed one piece on the head of each of the two graves. They asked him about that, and he said: .
This hadith is in "Sahih al-Bukhari," and you hear that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) explicitly stated in it that these two were Muslims, and yet they are being punished. So the Messenger (peace be upon him) prayed for them that Allah would lighten their punishment for as long as these two branches remained fresh.
Likewise, there is another hadith in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:.
And so, the hadiths are many, and very many. Among them, and I will not lengthen this, is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) when he passed by two graves of polytheists who died in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance, he said (peace and blessings be upon him):.
Despite the coming of these hadiths regarding the punishment of the grave for some polytheists and for some Muslims, these hadiths were denied, and they were not believed in, nor in their content, on the philosophy that they are ahad hadiths. So what is their position regarding the hadith of Abu Hurayrah:; among them is the punishment of the grave. If they seek refuge with Allah from the punishment of the grave in implementation of this ruling of the Shari'ah, which is their obligation, because they do not differ with us that it is obligatory to act upon ahad hadiths in rulings, then this is a ruling of the Shari'ah in which the Messenger (peace be upon him) ordered us to make this supplication in the final tashahhud. If they act upon it, as is their claim, and their claim is the truth because it is with us here, how do they act upon it while they do not believe in the punishment of the grave? They do not accept the punishment of the grave.
Indeed, they are being punished, and they are not being punished for a great matter; as for one of them, he used to go about spreading talebearing, and as for the other, he did not protect himself from urine (and in a narration: he did not conceal himself from urine).
Perhaps Allah (Mighty and Majestic) will lighten their punishment as long as they remain fresh.
Likewise, there is another hadith in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Protect yourselves from urine; for most of the punishment of the grave is from urine.
And so, the hadiths are many, and very many. Among them, and I will not lengthen this, is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him) when he passed by two graves of polytheists who died in the pre-Islamic age of ignorance, he said (peace and blessings be upon him):
If it were not that you bury one another, I would have heard the punishment of the grave
Despite the coming of these hadiths regarding the punishment of the grave for some polytheists and for some Muslims, these hadiths were denied, and they were not believed in, nor in their content, on the philosophy that they are ahad hadiths. So what is their position regarding the hadith of Abu Hurayrah:
When one of you sits in the final tashahhud, let him seek refuge with Allah from four things.
