Discussion of the Punishment of the Grave, First: The Evidence from the Noble Book.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Now, secondly, the second issue is the punishment of the grave. The punishment of the grave is established by the Book and the Sunnah and the consensus of the Muslims. Listen: the punishment of the grave is established by the Qur'an and the Sunnah and the consensus of the Muslims. These are great, strong proofs, like mountains, in the Noble Qur'an. Allah said regarding the people of Pharaoh:
The Fire, they are exposed to it morning and evening.
[Ghafir 40:46]
meaning in the morning and the evening
And the Day the Hour appears [it will be said], "Make the people of Pharaoh enter the severest punishment."
[Ghafir 40:46]
So Allah made it clear that these people are presented to the Fire in the morning and the evening, and this is a punishment
And the Day the Hour appears
[Ar-Rum 30:12]
that is the most severe
Make the people of Pharaoh enter the severest punishment." أدخلوا آل فرعون أشد العذاب
[Ghafir 40:46]
And in what we heard from the recitation of our imam tonight, there is an indication of that. Where is the verse that indicates that? You answer it?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : No, we did not recite that. We did not recite
[For such is the state of the disbelievers], until, when death comes to one of them, he says, "My Lord, send me back حتى إذا جاء أحدهم الموت قال رب ارجعون
[Al-Mu'minun 23:99]
We want it in the recitation of our imam.
Has the sleep left you now, hmm?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : It has not left. Bring some water. Has the sleep left you or not? Has the sleep gone or not? Has the sleep left you now or not?
The student: ... .

The Shaykh : It has gone, if Allah wills. Good, rest. Good, that is fine.
Good, let us listen to the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And if you could but see when the wrongdoers are in the overwhelming pangs of death
[Al-An'am 6:93]
meaning in the throes of death
while the angels extend their hands
[Al-An'am 6:93]
Get out, your souls
And this indicates that the souls of the wrongdoers resist going out because they are being informed of anger and punishment, so they want to remain in this body. It says: "Get out." Some of the Salaf said: "By Allah, they are more miserly with it than a miser is with his wealth. Get out, give it to us."
Today you will be awarded the punishment of [extreme] humiliation for what you used to say against Allah other than the truth
[Al-An'am 6:93]
When is today, our brothers? "Today" means the day of your souls going out.
Today you will be awarded the punishment of [extreme] humiliation for what you used to say against Allah other than the truth and [that] you were, toward His verses, being arrogant." اليوم تجزون عذاب الهون بما كنتم تقولون على الله غير الحق وكنتم عن آياته تستكبرون
[Al-An'am 6:93]
This is evidence from the Qur'an. In fact, we have just mentioned two proofs, and there is more than that, but I fear that time will run out for us.
