We arrived at al-Masjid al-Haram five minutes before the 'Asr prayer and wanted to combine the prayers. Does the two-rak'ah Zuhr prayer suffice as the greeting of the mosque?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : We arrived at al-Masjid al-Haram five minutes before the 'Asr prayer.
Another questioner: The mu'adhdhin had called the adhan, so we were waiting for the iqamah.

The questioner : We have the right to combine the Zuhr and 'Asr prayers. We entered the Haram, and the first thing was the greeting of the mosque. We did not know whether to pray the greeting of the mosque or not, because the greeting of the mosque is the tawaf. Second, we wanted to catch the Zuhr prayer before praying 'Asr with the congregation. So, what I did was I prayed the two rak'ahs of Zuhr as a combined prayer with delayed Zuhr first, and I included the intention of the greeting of the mosque with it. When I finished praying them, I think we did a little tawaf, about two or three rounds, and then they called the iqamah for prayer, so I prayed with them and then completed the tawaf. What is the correct thing to do in a situation like this inside the mosque, where the 'Asr adhan is called and one has the right to combine? Does he pray two rak'ahs of Zuhr or four first in al-Masjid al-Haram?

The Shaykh : On what basis?

The questioner : On the basis that in al-Masjid al-Haram, you remain in the state of shortening the prayer?

The Shaykh : What is the difference with the other mosques, my brother, on days when they shorten the prayer?

The questioner : Is there no greeting of the mosque?

The Shaykh : How can there be no greeting? It is more deserving of the greeting than any other.
