The Shaykh’s (may Allah have mercy on him) comment on the praise directed at him by one of his students.

The Shaykh: May Allah bless you all. I have nothing to say in the face of this praise, which I do not deserve. We are far below what the honorable Professor Abu Malik says, by many stages. However, his good opinion of this poor servant, who is in need of his Lord’s mercy, is what encourages him and drives him to such fragrant praise, which I do not deserve. Therefore, on this occasion, I have nothing to do but follow the greatest man of our righteous predecessors after the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), namely Abu Bakr al-Siddiq. When he heard praise like this from some of them, he would say: Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 761 This is all that I can say on this occasion. Actions are by intentions, and there is no doubt or ambiguity that the intention of our honorable Professor Abu Malik is not to be viewed with suspicion in any way. However, we are not pleased with such praise, because we know that it is slaughter, as he (peace be upon him) said. So we fear for ourselves as we fear for others, completely. But as we said: Sahih al-Bukhari 1
Do not take me to task for what they say and forgive me for what they do not know
اللهم لا تؤاخذني بما يقولون ، واغفر لي ما لا يعلمون ، واجعلني خيرًا مما يظنُّونThe reward of deeds depends upon the intentions and every person will get the reward according to what he has intended.
إنما الأعمال بالنيات ، وإنما لكلِّ امرئٍ ما نوى
