The Meaning of Allah’s Saying: “But as for he who is among the near ones – to His saying – Indeed, this is the true certainty”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : He said:
(88) And if the deceased was of those brought near to Allah, (89) Then [for him is] rest and bounty and a garden of pleasure. (90) And if he was of the companions of the right, (91) Then [the angels will say], "Peace for you; [you are] from the companions of the right."
[Al-Waqi'ah 56:88-91]
He will be saved safely without punishment.
But if he was of the deniers [who were] astray,
[Al-Waqi'ah 56:92]
And they are the companions of the left
(93) Then [for him is] accommodation of scalding water (94) And burning in Hellfire (95) Indeed, this is the true certainty,
[Al-Waqi'ah 56:93-95]
And the denier will find it when death comes upon him. Perhaps a person may deny this or doubt it, but when death comes upon him and he witnesses the truth, he will know the truth.
In this verse, or in these last verses, there is evidence for the establishment of the punishment of the grave. The punishment of the grave is established by the indication of the Qur'an, the Sunnah, and the consensus of the people of truth.
As for the Qur'an, it contains several verses that point to this, among them this verse:
if the deceased was of those brought near to Allah, (89) Then [for him is] rest and bounty
[Al-Waqi'ah 56:88-89]
When does this occur? At the time of dying, and this indicates that he is blessed in his grave.
if he was of the deniers [who were] astray, (93) Then [for him is] accommodation of scalding water
[Al-Waqi'ah 56:92-93]
When? At the time of dying, at death, and this is evidence that he is punished in his grave. All Muslims say in their prayer: “I seek refuge in Allah from the punishment of the Hellfire and from the punishment of the grave.” This is an affirmation of it, because one does not seek refuge except from something that exists, which a person fears may befall him, so he seeks refuge in Allah from it.
