You mentioned that it is prescribed to travel to the House of Allah for 'Umrah during the ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah. Is there not hardship and inconvenience for the pilgrims in this?

The questioner : And this last one says: You mentioned, may Allah preserve you, that it is prescribed to travel to the Sacred House to perform 'Umrah during the ten days. Is there not hardship and inconvenience for those who come to Makkah to perform 'Umrah and Hajj? This is all I want to point out.

The Shaykh : We want to perform 'Umrah and Hajj, and we also want to perform 'Umrah, because 'Umrah is prescribed in the months of Hajj, which begin with Shawwal and end with Dhu al-Hijjah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not perform 'Umrah except in the months of Hajj, to the extent that some scholars hesitated whether 'Umrah in the months of Hajj is better or 'Umrah in Ramadan is better. Pay attention, because the entire 'Umrah of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was in the months of Hajj. When was the 'Umrah of Hudaybiyyah? In Dhu al-Qa'dah, in the months of Hajj. The 'Umrah of al-Qada' was in Dhu al-Qa'dah, in the months of Hajj. The 'Umrah of al-Ja'ranah was in Dhu al-Qa'dah, in the months of Hajj. The 'Umrah of his Hajj was in Dhu al-Qa'dah, and Dhu al-Hijjah is also in the months of Hajj. So if a person is able to perform 'Umrah in the months of Hajj, in Dhu al-Qa'dah or at the end of Shawwal, that is good. But our discussion is about where we said that people travel, or set out for Makkah to perform 'Umrah and Hajj, or to perform 'Umrah alone; we want both. As for the issue of crowding, some contemporary scholars said that a person should not perform Hajj after fulfilling the obligation because it causes crowding for people. But we do not hold this opinion. We say that Hajj is encouraged and urged upon, but only after one has the ability. The crowding that comes to people and the hardship that comes to people result only from poor conduct. If people acted with calmness, tranquility, and humility, this harm would not occur. Therefore, we see that if people perform the rituals with calmness, humility, and worship of Allah, they will never experience harm, because everyone is walking on their own path. The harm comes from arguing, quarreling, and pushing, not from the large number of people.
