The Book of Hajj-09b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Haddathana Hudayb ibn Khalid, haddathana Hammam, haddathana Qatadah, that Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) informed him:
that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) performed four 'Umras, all during the month of Dhu'l-Qa'da except the one he performed along with Hajj (and these are) the Umra that he performed from al-Hudaibiya or during the time of (the truce of) Hudaibiya in the month of Dhu'l-Qa'da then the Umra of the next year in the month of Dhu'l-Qa'da, then the Umra for which b'e had started from ji'rana, the place where he distributed the spoils of (the battle of) Hunain in the month of Dhu'l-Qa'da, and then the 'Umra that he performed along with his Hajj
Sahih Muslim 1252c
.

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
These are four 'Umrahs: three independent ones, and one with the Hajj.
The 'Umrah of al-Hudaybiyyah was in the sixth year, the 'Umrah of qada' (making up) was in the seventh year, Jirranah was in the eighth year, and his 'Umrah with his Hajj was in the tenth year. It was in Dhul-Qa'dah in reality, but the secret, and Allah knows best, the stronger opinion is that he did not separate it by traveling alone, but rather he combined it with the Hajj. Otherwise, it was in Dhul-Qa'dah, because he entered the state of ihram when five days remained, or four days remained, of Dhul-Qa'dah, or he meant by that his actions. For the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Makkah when four days had passed of Dhul-Hijjah on a Sunday morning, so he performed tawaf and sa'y and did not exit the state of ihram. If Anas ibn Malik intended by the exception that the actions of the 'Umrah which he combined with the Hajj did not take place in Dhul-Qa'dah, then it is correct. But if he intended the entry into ihram with it, then he entered into ihram with it in Dhul-Qa'dah.
Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) hesitated as to which is better: performing 'Umrah in Dhul-Qa'dah in the months of Hajj generally, or performing 'Umrah in Ramadan? He hesitated in this because the saying of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his action conflicted in this matter. As for his action, he did not perform 'Umrah in Ramadan, but rather he performed 'Umrah in the months of Hajj. As for his saying, he said:
Umrah during Ramadan is equal to Hajj عمرة في رمضان تعدل حجة
