The Shaykh : Yes, it is permissible to hire women to play the hand drum, because this is a permissible act, indeed it is a prescribed act. And any compensation for something that is permissible or something that is prescribed is lawful. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: . Take from this hadith two principles: "The first principle is that when Allah forbids something, He forbids its price. The second principle is that when Allah permits something, He permits its price". Therefore, it is permissible to hire a woman who plays the hand drum, but the hiring must be reasonable, meaning the wage must be reasonable. As for giving five thousand for her to play for one or two hours, that is not correct. That is wastefulness and extravagance. If the woman does not come to sing for one or two hours unless for five thousand, take five hundred from the five thousand and you will find someone who sings, even if the singing is not like the singing of the famous singer. It is sufficient that she opens her mouth, and the remaining four thousand and five hundred, make it for your hungry brothers in the Islamic lands, and likewise for your brothers who are confined in the Islamic lands.
