The fragmentation of the Muslim community and its division into sects and parties prevents the establishment of an Islamic state

The questioner : You mentioned those who have neglected their Lord, and you mentioned among them the Asha'irah, the Maturidiyyah, and the Mu'tazilah, but there are people whom many of the common people believe have not neglected their Lord

The Shaykh : Correct.

The questioner : And they are the Sufis, who say about their Lord,

The Shaykh : Ah, but that is not correct

The questioner : And they cite as evidence the verse
And it is Allah who is [the only] deity in the heaven, and on the earth [the only] deity وهو الذي في السماء إله وفي الأرض إله
[Az-Zukhruf 43:84]
And He is Allah in the heavens and the earth وهو الله في السموات والأرض
... .

The Shaykh : ... meaning that is why they remember Allah: "He is, He is, not He, not He." This is also a second example. What is the position of the groups that want to establish the Muslim state regarding these people?

The questioner : "O He who is present in all existence." When he leaves his house, he says, "O He who is present in all existence." We have heard this often in Damascus.

The Shaykh : "O my Lord, here Allah is present in every place."

The questioner : This is one of the errors you mentioned regarding them.

The Shaykh : Yes, that is it. Therefore, these are Muslims. Now, my brothers, our situation is problematic and very strange. For example, we want to strive against the disbelievers. Are we of one heart? Can we strive against the disbelievers? We are currently divided among ourselves, and we cannot fight the disbelievers as long as we are divided. If we accept, above all else, the simplest matter that both the scholar and the ignorant agree on, which is that we must agree in order to be a strength and one hand against the enemy who occupied our lands, and we always make movements and revolutions and so on, and then nothing comes of it, why do we not agree? The Arabic proverb says: "I am thirsty and you are thirsty, so how can we agree?" Each of us is walking a different path. But Allah the Exalted says:
And, [moreover], this is My path, which is straight, so follow it; and do not follow [other] ways, for you will be separated from His way وأن هذا صراطي مستقيما فاتبعوه ولا تتبعوا السبل فتفرق بكم عن سبيله
[Al-An'am 6:153]
We have now followed different paths, and therefore we have become divided. So before thinking about establishing the Muslim state—may Allah have mercy on that caller, I do not remember if it was al-Hassan al-Banna or al-Hudaybi—he said a word that if his followers today, who claim to belong to him, had followed it, they would have been able to establish an Islamic society, even if it were small. What did he say? "Establish the state of Islam in your hearts, and it will be established for you on your land." Establish the state of Islam in your hearts. No, we want the state of Islam on the earth before we establish it in the heart. This will never happen. And now, these Sufis will pray and fast; perhaps they will pray at night while we are sleeping. But what is the benefit of fasting or this standing in prayer when they have denied their Lord? And one of their poets said, as you know:
"And the dog and the pig are our god, *** And Allah is nothing but a monk in a church"
Are these not our brothers? Our brothers are these, but how, my brothers, are they our brothers when they have disbelieved in our Lord and made the dog and the pig our god? These are not our brothers. Can those who want to establish the state of Islam do without these people and leave them like this, neglected? Or is it their duty to guide them? It is their duty to guide them, because among them may be their father, their brother, their mother, their maternal aunt, their paternal aunt, and so on. They are not outside of us. But no, we just want to establish the Muslim state, and how is this point not investigated? We just want to establish the Muslim state. And Allah is the Helper, and there is no power and no strength except with Allah.
