One who falls ill in Ramadan and breaks his fast for days, then recovers but does not make up what he owes while he is able; what is his ruling?

The Shaykh : Another scenario: A person breaks his fast in Ramadan for days while he is ill, then recovers afterward but does not make up what he owes while he is able. In this case, we do not say that it is permissible for anyone to fast on his behalf. His case is like that of one who breaks his fast in Ramadan intentionally and deliberately; his case is like that of one who abandons prayer intentionally and deliberately. There is no expiation for him whatsoever. However, the one who is excused—that is, the one who dies while ill and is unable to make up the days of Ramadan he missed—the previous statement we made applies to him. As for a person who intentionally breaks his fast in Ramadan, or does not do so intentionally—he was ill and weak, and Allah knows best regarding his intention—then when he... was cured and recovered, and days passed, or perhaps even months, and he did not make them up; in this case, they are not made up on his behalf whatsoever.
