Ruling on one who breaks the fast in Ramadan due to illness

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first message in this episode came from the questioner (N. S.) from al-Kharj. She says in her message: I have been ill for three years and have not fasted, and the year that has just passed is the fourth. Do I have to fast or pay an expiation? And is it permissible for me, if I am able, to postpone making up the fasts until the winter days and make up as many as I can? Please advise us, may Allah reward you.
Answer: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, upon his family and his Companions, and upon those who follow his guidance.
As for what follows: Allah has forgiven the sick person regarding the delay of fasting; for Allah:
and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other daysوَمَنْ كَانَ مَرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَى سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ
[al-Baqarah:185] This is a favor from Allahthat He permitted the sick person to break the fast and postponed making up the fast until recovery, and for this reason He said after it:
Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardshipيُرِيدُ اللَّهُ بِكُمُ الْيُسْرَ وَلا يُرِيدُ بِكُمُ الْعُسْرَ
[al-Baqarah:185], so if Allah heals you, you must make up the fasting you left behind, and praise be to Allah.
However, if the doctors determine that this illness is not expected to end and that it will continue, then you must feed a poor person for each day, and that is sufficient. This is like the old man and the old woman who cannot fast; they feed a poor person for each day, half a sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) of dates, rice, or other staple food of the country, which is approximately one and a half kilograms, and that is sufficient for each day, given to some of the poor. As for a person who is waiting for recovery and hopes for recovery, he does not have to feed anyone, but he must be patient until Allah heals him. When Allah heals him, he makes up the fasting that has passed, even if it is for years, because he is excused by the Shari'ah. Yes.
The presenter: And no expiation?
The Shaykh: And no expiation.
The presenter: May Allah reward you.
