The ruling for a sick person who breaks his fast in Ramadan

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
This message is from Ali Muhammad Ali al-Ghamidi, from the land of Ghamd, the village of Al-Atif. He asks about breaking the fast in the month of Ramadan due to illness. He says: I would like to inquire about the following: I work in a hot region, and I am a sick person. I was previously hospitalized at Al-Saddad Hospital, and this year in Ramadan I broke my fast for all the days because I was unable to fast. I ask your eminence to inform me: Do I have to make up the fasts, or feed people, or what is required of me? May Allah preserve you and take care of you.
Answer: It is obligatory for a sick person who breaks his fast to make up the days after Allah heals him, whether he makes them up consecutively or separately; there is no harm in that. This is based on the saying of Allah, the Exalted:
and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other daysوَمَنْ كَانَ مَرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَى سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ مِنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ
[Surat al-Baqarah: 185], meaning: so fast for a number of other days. He did not say, “consecutively,” which indicates that he has a choice. If he wishes to make them up consecutively, that is better; if he wishes to make them up separately, there is no harm. This is all provided he is able to do so. As long as he is unable, the fasts are postponed for him until he is able and until he is healed from his illness. When Allah heals him and grants him well-being, he makes them up consecutively or separately. If his illness is one that is not cured, but rather persists and remains, then he is not required to make up the fasts at that time due to his inability to do so, but he is required to feed people. He feeds one poor person for each day, half a sa' (a dry measure of about 3 kg) of dates or rice, from the staple food of his land. This is sufficient if his illness is one that is not cured. In this case, his ruling is the same as that of the old man and the old woman: there is no making up of fasts for them, but each of them feeds one poor person for each day, half a sa' of dates, or rice, or the like, meaning: half a sa' of the staple food of the land for each day, with no making up of fasts.
