The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said, regarding the hadith he quoted from Ka'b ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), the hadith of the three who lagged behind in the Battle of Tabuk, and they were left in their state until Allah (Mighty and Majestic) decreed for them what He decreed. They were three: Ka'b ibn Malik, Hilal ibn Umayyah, and Mirarah ibn al-Rabi'. He (may Allah be pleased with him) said in part of his hadith: : Because they were unable to walk in the markets, as the people had boycotted them; no one would look at them, no one would greet them, and if they greeted others, no one would return the greeting. They were unable to bear this situation, so they remained in their homes weeping. He says: So he would attend the congregational prayer with the Muslims, and he would walk around the markets of Madinah, but no one would speak to him. No one would speak to him, why? Because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the boycotting of the three, and the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) were the most obedient people to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
Meaning: He did not return a greeting that could be heard; perhaps he moved his lips or perhaps he did not. This was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the best of people in character, but in obedience to what Allah revealed to him to boycott these people, he boycotted them. So he would say: I do not know if he moved his lips in return for the greeting or not. He says: : Meaning I would look at him sometimes while I was praying: Sahih Muslim 2769a, b All of this was due to the intensity of the boycott.
He says: : Climbed over it: meaning he entered it with the wall, without the door, and it seems the door was closed, and knowledge is with Allah. He says: Sunan Abi Dawud 4600Sahih (Al-Albani) : And he was his maternal uncle and the most beloved of people to him, and yet he did not return his greeting.

فأما صاحباي فاستكانا في بيوتهما يبكيانAs for me, I was the strongest and the most patient of the group
وأما أنا فكنت أشدَّ القوم وأجلدهمAnd I would go to the mosque and greet the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was sitting with the people after the prayer, and I would say: Did he move his lips in return for the greeting or not?
وكنت آتي المسجد فأسلم على النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم وهو جالس للناس بعد الصلاة فأقول : هل حرك شفتيه برد السلام أم لا ؟And I would pray and steal glances at the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)
وكنت أصلي وأسارق النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم النظرwhen I attended to my prayer, he looked at me and when I cast a glance at him he turned away his eyes from me
فإذا أقبلت على صلاتي نظر إلي ، وإذا التفت إليه أعرض عنيHe says:
