There is in the book *Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Da'ifah wa al-Mawdu'ah* (The Chain of Weak and Fabricated Hadiths) the hadith: “There is no Muslim or man who greets me but that Allah returns my soul to me, so that I return the greeting to him.”

The questioner : There is in the book *Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Da'ifah wa al-Mawdu'ah* the hadith
There is no Muslim or man who greets me but that Allah returns my soul to me, so that I return the greeting to him.
. It is said to be a mursal hadith of good quality!! The author of *Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Da'ifah wa al-Mawdu'ah* does not say that a hadith is a mursal of good quality; he must have mentioned other things. The important thing is the answer to this question, which he ended by saying, “We hope you will explain to us whether it is valid to be acted upon or not?”
The answer is that this is a hasan (good) hadith. Abu Dawud narrated it with a complete chain, not as mursal, from the hadith of Abu Hurayrah. He said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
There is no man who greets me but that Allah returns my soul to me, so that I return the greeting to him.
. So this is a hadith established at the level of hasan (good) according to the scholars of hadith. Among those who established it is Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah and others. It is one of the hadiths related to the realm of the barzakh (the interval between death and resurrection). The realm of the barzakh is among the unseen worlds that the human mind usually cannot reach or uncover the truths of. So if something comes to us from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), let alone from the Noble Qur'an, that speaks about some of these unseen matters, our duty at that time is, as He the Exalted said:
and they greet with a greeting ويسلموا تسليما
. For this submission is what indicates the perfection of the Muslim who submits to this text, as He the Exalted said:
(2) This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah - (3) Who believe in the unseen
[Al-Baqarah 2:2-3]
. Who are the righteous? Those who believe in the unseen. The unseen, linguistically, is everything that is hidden from your knowledge and your mind; it is the unseen. So if a matter related to the unseen is transmitted from the Book or from the established Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), it is obligatory to submit to it, as we mentioned. And if such an unseen matter comes from some opinions, the opinions of men, it is not permissible to submit to it, because it falls under the category of superstitions and conjecture about the unseen. The aforementioned hadith is one of the hadiths of the unseen; it is obligatory to submit to it, and it is not permissible to expand on attempting to uncover the truth of this report. It is not permissible to ask how the Messenger, peace be upon him, returns the greeting to those who greet him, and they are in the same moment, and none can count their number except Allah (Blessed and Exalted is He). Because we say this is an unseen matter, and it is not permissible to expand on it. Rather, we believe in the amount that the hadith informed us of...
If any one of you greets me, Allah returns my soul to me ...
Sunan Abi Dawud 2041Hasan (Al-Albani)
Yes.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : Which hadith?

The questioner : ... He stopped at his saying:
There is no Muslim or man who greets me but that Allah returns my soul to me, so that I return the greeting to him.
... .

The Shaykh : And this is different from that; this is not that. This is what is being asked about, and we tell you that in Sunan Abu Dawud, it does not say he stops at his grave... .

The questioner : ... There is an established text... Peace be upon you, O Messenger of Allah... .

The Shaykh : ... We will do it for him... No, not that, this one.
