Is a man punished if he does not treat his wives with justice?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Is a man punished if he does not treat his wives with justice?

The Shaykh : Yes, if a man does not treat his wives with justice in matters where justice is obligatory, he commits a sin without doubt. In fact, failing to be just is one of the major sins, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
When a man has two wives and he is inclined to one of them, he will come on the Day of resurrection with a side hanging down. من كانت له امرأتان فمال إلى إحداهما جاء يوم القيامة وشقه مائل
Sunan Abi Dawud 2133Sahih (Al-Albani)
As for what cannot be done with justice, such as love, Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. So if a man loves one of his wives more than the other, he owes nothing for that, because it is something a person cannot control. Love and hatred are in the hand of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He); a person has no authority over them. Yes, a person can do the things that cause love or cause hatred, and that is possible and within his control. For example, if he wants to create love between himself and another person, he gives him a gift, because a gift removes resentment and creates affection. Likewise, one of the causes of affection is fulfilling the rights of his brother if he is a companion in affection and support, and other things that are causes of love.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
