Advice for one who cannot be just between his two wives

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: I am a man married to two wives, and I have not been able to be just between them, and the problems have multiplied for me. What is your opinion, may Allah reward you with good? And is there a sin on me if I divorce one of them, knowing that she has children?

Answer: It is obligatory for you to be just. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When a man has two wives and he is inclined to one of them, he will come on the Day of resurrection with a side hanging down.من كان له زوجتان فمال إلى إحداهما جاء يوم القيامة وشقه مائل
Sunan Abi Dawud 2133Sahih (Al-Albani)
, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to divide between his wives and be just, and he said:
O Allah, this is my division concerning what I control, so do not blame me concerning what You control and I do not.اللهم هذا قسمي فيما أملك، فلا تلمني فيما تملك ولا أملك
Sunan Abi Dawud 2134
. So it is obligatory for you to be just between them according to your ability in the division of nights and days, in financial maintenance, if they are equal. But if one has children and the other does not, you give each one according to her need.
As for love and intercourse, that is not required, and this is from Allah. But you must be just in the division of nights; this one has a night and this one has a night, and likewise the day.
As for you loving this one more or having intercourse with this one more, that does not harm you. We advise you not to hasten in divorce unless your soul is pleased with one of them, then divorce her. And do not wrong her unless she is pleased with your injustice and your lack of justice. If she is pleased and says, "I am pleased, come to me whenever you wish, do whatever you wish," if she is pleased, then there is no harm.
